About Ede's
Ede’s were established in 1869 and have evolved from quite literally a small horse and cart run business owned by greengrocer William Ede into the award winning commercial relocation specialist it is today.
Ede’s long and successful history is built on professional dedicated individuals working tirelessly to ensure that Ede’s high standards are always achieved.
We pride ourselves on our excellent reputation and believe our achievements are best judged from the feedback we receive from our clients.
Our History
1869
We were founded in 1869
Our founder, William Ede in his first removal cart in 1869.
EDE’s was founded in 1869 by William Ede. The business grew and soon became one of the early leaders in the European Removals service which began mainly after the war, and flourished into the 1950’s.

1960s
Our first motorised lorry
During 1960/70 the company was operating some 30 vehicles between Europe and the UK, and at that time domestic moving and overseas packing and shipping were the main business. This continued into the early eighties until unfortunately the European moving market took a dramatic downturn and the company suffered severely.

1990s
Part of our 1970s fleet
In December 1991, Mr. Tony Smith, who for 25 years, was a Director of one of the leading office moving companies, decided to purchase W. Ede & Company. Identifying that W. Ede was an old, well respected, name but needed new direction and input he decided immediately to take the decision to direct it into an office and commercial relocation removal company.
Around this time the company embraced the newly formed BAR Commercial Moving Group and with a clear focus on quality and service have since been named Commercial Mover of the Year on an unprecedented seven occasions, an achievement that we are extremely proud of.

Completion of our warehouse
A significant milestone came in 2010 when Ede’s took the decision to move from its long-standing home in Wallington and relocated to a purpose-built warehouse and headquarters in Garth Road, Morden. This facility was designed with environmental concerns at its heart, incorporating renewable energy from photovoltaic cells, heat recovery, optimised natural daylight and high thermal performance. This was the steppingstone in developing Ede’s services, and instrumental in ensuring that environmental and sustainable practices were embedded within the core of the business.

From this base in Morden and satellite facilities we operate across the entire UK, servicing many nationwide contracts.
We are always mindful of our rich heritage but also cautious not to let it override our appetite for change and development. From the early days of horse and carts to a modern fleet of ULEZ compliant vehicles and more recently the acquisition of EV vehicles, we have adapted, modified and prospered within the rapidly changing marketplace.
